Eli Shapiro is a writer, director, comedian, and person. His award-winning short films have been featured on Vimeo Staff Picks, Short of the Week, Omeleto, Film Shortage, Booooooom TV, played in Oscar-qualifying festivals, garnered millions of views online, and been translated into languages around the world.
In television, Eli has written on the series I LOVE YOU BUT I LIED (Lifetime), co-wrote the half-hour pilot LUCKBOXES for Poker Central, and created and developed an adult animated comedy with Oscar-winning animation studio ShadowMachine (Bojack Horseman). On the feature side, he developed an original comedy with Josephson Entertainment, and is currently in development on directing his first independent feature.
Eli has earned distinctions as a quarterfinalist in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s prestigious Nicholl Fellowship and winner of the Charles and Lucille King Award in Screenwriting. On the commercial side, he has written for brands like Panda Express, Microsoft, and eBay.
Since starting out as a 13-year-old stand up comic in New York City, Eli graduated from NYU Tisch with a BFA in Film & Television, and has worked in production on things like Louie (FX) and They Came Together (Lionsgate). His drive-in movie theater wedding during the pandemic was featured in The New York Times.
